Your Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced, caring, strength-based professional to complement the Red Deer Opioid Dependency Program. Reporting to the Manager, the Mental Health Clinician (MHC) works independently as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing evidence-informed and best practices in assessment, treatment, interventions, support, and follow-up to individuals registered to the Opioid Dependency Program. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring their practice and documentation is in line with the Community Protection and Opioid Stewardship Standards and current best practices. The MHC will also collaborate with addiction medicine physicians, psychiatrists, community agencies and external medical and social service providers to coordinate optimal client care delivery and provide informed referrals for recovery-orientated interventions. Knowledge of community resources is important in order to provide appropriate referrals as required. This is an advanced clinical position providing assessment, provisional diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to an addiction and mental health population, specifically dealing with concurrent issues associated with Opioid Use Disorder and trauma. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Expert knowledge of co-occurring health needs (addiction and mental health) is required. Knowledge and experience using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). Current Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Employer-provided training in Suicide Risk Management. Employer-provided training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Must have 3.5 years' experience working with vulnerable populations including those with addiction and mental health concerns. Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of trauma informed care in all interactions with clients. It is also a requirement that the incumbent is physically able to respond to behavioural/clinical emergencies that may occur anywhere in the building.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification specific to one or more evident-based psychotherapies preferred (individual and group). Connect Care training completed.
