Manager - Financial Reporting
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is seeking a collaborative and experienced finance professional for the role of Manager, Financial Reporting. Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting, this position provides leadership in the development, coordination, and delivery of key processes that support transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship across the organization. This is an opportunity to lead a skilled financial reporting team, support quarterly and annual reporting requirements, and provide technical accounting guidance within a complex public sector healthcare environment. The successful candidate will work closely with operational finance teams, senior leaders, auditors, Acute Care Alberta, government ministries, and other stakeholders to support accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
Description:
The Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the preparation, review, and delivery of internal and external financial reporting for Alberta Health Services. This includes supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting activities; ensuring compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards, Treasury Board directives, provincial legislation, and applicable reporting requirements; and maintaining strong internal controls over financial reporting. The position provides strategic and technical leadership on complex accounting and reporting matters, coordinates internal and external audit activities, and contributes to the continuous improvement of financial reporting processes. The Manager also provides full supervision to a team of financial reporting professionals, including coaching, mentoring, workload planning, and support for professional development.

A minimum of a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline. Professional accounting designation (i.e., CPA), or a master’s degree or equivalent. A minimum of seven years of experience in finance and/or external financial audit. Thorough understanding and working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated confidence and ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. Knowledge of a broad range of finance processes. Project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting complex audits and working with external auditors to understand and address audit requirements. Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring professional staff.
