The NW Corridor Community & Rural Allied Health Area Manager is a key leadership role within AHS operations and reports to the Executive Director, Allied Health & Volunteer Resources. This position is accountable and responsible for people and financial management for allied health services across community and rural across the NW Corridor - Child Development Specialists, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, Social Work, Recreation Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. The work site is negotiable within the NW Corridor (hybrid) however travel to all rural sites is required to fulfill managerial accountabilities and to meet the supervisory needs of the staff. The Allied Health Area Manager provides direction, leadership and organization in collaboration with Site Managers across the corridor in support of the vision, mission and strategic plans of AHS and the allied health services program. The Area Manager maintains strong working relationships with other Allied Health Area Managers within the north, Site Leads & Managers, health services partners and community stakeholders to ensure that rehabilitation services are accessible, efficient, effective, appropriate and safe. The Area Manager works closely with the discipline specific Professional Practice Leads when doing clinical program planning and when putting clinical training, education, mentorship and coaching in place for staff. The Area Manager ensures that allied health staff has the equipment and tools to do their job well and contributes to a healthy, vibrant allied health culture that supports staff safety, recruitment and retention.
Description:
People Management Full supervision of unionized allied health professional and support staff in multiple communities and sites. May include Child Development Specialists, OTs, PTs, SLPs, Audiologists, Respiratory Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Social Workers, Therapy Assistants, Aides and Administrative Assistants. Functional supervision of staff including students and third party contracted clinicians. Ensures the strategic use of human resources in providing effective and efficient services/patient care. Financial Management Full accountability for allied health services budget as per delegation of authority. Operational & Strategic Leadership Ensures that allied health services and programs support the overall AHS vision and goals. Provides leadership to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are enforced. Responsible to take independent action in controlling the quality of work performed. Manages recruitment/hire/orientation/performance/retention, address gaps in services, responsible for ensuring appropriate allied health equipment and materials, assists in the planning and implementation of allied health initiatives and assess/support educational needs of staff, support student placements, addresses professional practice concerns and issues in collaboration with Professional Practice Leads and provides a role model for staff in a collaborative, open leadership style. Relationship Management Through interaction with internal and external partners, influences the direction of key initiatives on matters related to allied health. Supports commitment to the vision of allied health. Develop, implement and evaluate strategies which build and sustain a high performance workplace and foster positive relationships with stakeholders.

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in related healthcare field required plus appropriate licenses and designations. A minimum of 3 to 5 years in a full staff supervision health management role, ideally in a Canadian organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. The incumbent must demonstrate a clear and progressive pattern of professional and personal development in people and financial management.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Proven record of progressive leadership experience in allied health services in acute care, ambulatory, community and continuing care. Proven record of progressive leadership re: multidisciplinary teams including OT, PT, SLP, SW, Recreation Therapy, Audiology, Respiratory Therapy and Child Development Specialists. Proven record of being an effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Proven record of being a coach, mentor and ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Full supervision leadership experience in community and rural, Northern Alberta. Ability to start in position and work independently within a short period of time. Connect Care training is an asset. Financial systems training is an asset. EPeople Manager training is an asset.
