The unit manager facilitates the day-to-day clinical operational needs for the Adolescent in-patient mental health service at the Foothills Medical Centre. The unit provides acute mental health care for adolescents in a large urban hospital setting. The Unit manager oversees the multi-disciplinary team (nurses, therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and others) in setting and defining the care standards utilizing mental health best practices, trauma informed care, attachment principles, and patient & family centered care. The unit manager participates in Mental Health & Addictions zone initiatives and facilitates the engagement of the team in change actions. The unit manager is promoting a healthy work environment, program development and is accountable for the financial reporting for the unit. On-call responsibility is required on a rotational basis. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. The unit manager facilitates the day-to-day clinical operational needs for an Adolescent in-patient mental health service. The essential components of this management position are administrative and clinical activities. Working as a member of the management team, the unit manager provides daily support to the multi-disciplinary team regarding decisions that enhance patient care and clinical best practice. The unit manager assists the program manager in program planning & development, and in allocating human and financial resources to support services objectives and quality patient care. The unit manager coordinates the effective implementation of program development activities within the unit using knowledge and skill in change management processes. The position requires solid understanding of the system and effective collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, while also serving as a role model for family centered care, respectful relationships and positive communication.

Bachelor of Nursing, or Masters in Social work, Masters in Psychology, or Masters in related healthcare leadership. Registration with the appropriate professional college. 3 years of leadership (inscope) or manager experience. Experience in mental health within an acute care or community setting.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Change management and conflict resolution course(s). Knowledge & experience in mental health, including mental health policies. Knowledge & experience in managing/supervising unionized employees. Identify and problem solve for quality patient care. Ability to clearly communicate and navigate other service sectors other than health (Education, Human services, Justice).
Preferred Qualifications:
Program development and evaluation. Financial accountability. Promoting healthy work environments. Knowledge and experience navigating internal departments (scheduling, maintenance, etc). Connect Care.
