An exciting opportunity exists to grow your leadership skills and join a dynamic team within the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre management portfolio. Arthur Child opened in October 2024, the 1.4-billion-dollar Cancer Centre is the second largest in North America and will be the leading health care facility, academic and research centre providing cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. Reporting to the Executive Director, Arthur Child, this position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) portfolio to support the vision, mission and business plan of Cancer Care Alberta. As manager, you are responsible for ensuring high quality patient care and access, anticipating challenges, healthcare trends and increasing demands for services while developing an agile strategy capable of maintaining and enhancing patient care today and into the future. Your leadership role will develop and maintain strong working relationships with physicians and key stakeholders at Arthur Child and Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) to provide leadership to hematology and BMT inpatient units and to the larger clinical operations portfolio of Arthur Child. Coming from years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare management, your ability to foster a culture of high quality, collaborative care and continuous improvement is imperative. You will be responsible for the integrative organization and management of the Arthur Child Hematology and BMT inpatient units. Your role will ensure the effective deployment of resources, contributing to the development and implementation of operational plans or the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care.

Description:

The Manager, Inpatient Hematology and BMT is a key leadership role in the organization and operations of the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre portfolio and reports directly to the Executive Director of Arthur Child. This individual will be responsible for making key decisions and for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of Arthur Child’s clinical operations portfolio, as well as supporting Cancer Care Alberta priorities including improving patient flow and continuity of care. This position is responsible to promote and maintain a healthy work environment, and to demonstrate leadership skills with human resource functions including recruitment, coaching, clinical supervision, scheduling, performance appraisal and management within a multi-union environment. The Manager of the hematology and BMT inpatient units will demonstrate excellent analytical and decision-making skills, based on a framework of patient and family centred care, safety, and quality improvement. The Manager will promote an environment where team members are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge to meet the hematology and BMT patient and family care needs, and coach and mentor to support growth and development with staff. The Manager is responsible to develop and maintain strong working relationships with physicians, other health care providers and program areas within Arthur Child, Foothills Medical Centre, Cancer Care Alberta and the wider Calgary Zone to support patient care and the vision, mission, values and business plan of Alberta Health Services.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree with current registration and membership in good standing with a professional college as required. A minimum of 2 years Inpatient unit management experience is required. A minimum of 5 years health care management experience preferred. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and a commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within the operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physician groups, and internal and external stakeholders. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare / hematology / BMT / inpatient environment including leadership of significant size, complexity and diversity. Ability to plan organize and manage short and long term plans and projects and deliver client focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst and build sold relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners. Able to demonstrate competence in the development of new programs and services to meet the needs of the population.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in health care or leadership preferred. Previous Hematology and/or BMT experience an asset. Able to demonstrate competence in the development of new programs and services to meet the needs of the population. Accreditation experience an asset. Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity training or certificate. Leading Health and Safety in the Workplace Fundamental course. Immediate and Ongoing Management of Clinically Serious Adverse Events (or equivalent).
