Description:
The Manager is accountable and responsible for the effective and efficient operation of an assigned unit or patient care area within a specific program including the management of human, material and financial resources. The Unit Manager’s primary role is to support optimum patient care and unit operations through monitoring and organizing the workflow and delivery of patient care in the unit including daily staffing schedules, patient assignment and classification. The functions and responsibilities of the position are executed within the context of the unit goals. The Unit Manager is expected to provide leadership in providing quality patient care. Essential to this leadership role is the use of effective communication skills with the Patient Care Manager, other Unit Managers, Clinical Nurse Educators, staff and other department representatives.

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline. Current registration with the appropriate professional association. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Minimum two years previous experience in an informal or formal health services leadership role.

The successful incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Consistently role models AHS values. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, based on a framework of patient and family centered care, safety and quality improvement. Effective facilitator of proven change management principles within teams, and ability to motivate others to achieve organizational goals. Effective communication skills. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Inter-professional and inter-personal conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Self-directed when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years management experience, with health care experience preferred.
