The Manager HIM, Area 1,2,4,5 & Data Collection – North Zone (NZ) is a key leadership role in Health Information Management (HIM) and reports to the Director, HIM, NZ. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of NZ HIM, Data Collection (DC) and Data Quality & Clinical Documentation Integrity (DQ/CDI) in support of the vision, mission and business plan of AHS. The Manager is responsible and accountable for making key decisions and has direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of HIM. The Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in order to provide leadership to HIM staff. They will have strong change management skills and play a key role in leading their team through change, assessing and realigning workflows in alignment with provincial standards and balancing workload and human resources in a nimble and responsive manner. The role is future oriented, requires a high tolerance of ambiguity, a strong ability to connect and communicate with diverse stakeholders to mobilize team members to deliver results.
Description:
This position is responsible and accountable for: Ensuring the integrity of patient/client identity including remediation. Overseeing the accuracy, compliance and completeness of coded data in accordance with the Canadian Institute of health Information (CIHI) standards, Alberta Health (AH), and AHS policies to support high quality patient care, regulatory reporting requirements, education, research, and administrative purposes. Overseeing provincial DQ & CDI activities including evaluating and enhancing DQ & CDI workflows through the application of Alberta Improvement Way (AIW), LEAN methodologies and leveraging technological advancements to continuously drive improvements. Collaborating with HIM Provincial Managers to ensure service delivery meets AHS standards.

Health Information Management certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Managment. Active member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association. PROSCI Change Management Certification
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of operational leadership experience within an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Minimum 5 years of coding experience across Inpatient, Emergency and Day Surgery services. Knowledge and experience with DQ and CDI initiatives and processes. Demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development, highlighting a commitment to continuous growth. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused and commitment to providing quality services. Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven experience in managing change and improving operational efficiency through data driven decision making. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resource within an operating environment. Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment. Experience implementing and leveraging HIM business transformation strategies through the use of technology. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committee, and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coding and Classification Specialist certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Managment. Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist certificate with the Canadian College of Health Information Managment. Certification of completion from a Coding Specialist Program, coding refresher or other coding & classification programs recognized by the Canadian College of health Information Management. Alberta Improvement Way (AIW) certification.
