The Operations Manager, Central Zone, is responsible for making front line operational decisions and strategic recommendations in support of the vision, mission, business plan, and goals of EMS Operations. Reporting to the Director of Operations, Central Zone, the Manager will establish collaborative relationships at the front-line operational level with operational managers of affiliates, contract service partners, and provincial/zone AHS peers for contributing to the planning and/or service delivery management of EMS Operations within the Central Zone. You will oversee daily operational field management of pre-hospital care, patient transfer services, and special operations. This includes assessing requirements and planning, allocating and managing physical, human, and fiscal resources to ensure safety and high-performance standards in EMS service delivery. You will complete performance evaluations and management to keep performance consistent with established standards, medical protocols, policies, and procedures for quality patient care, and communicate with staff regarding corporate, departmental, and branch operations. You will also promote innovative practice and quality improvement to enhance service, consistent with regional and provincial objectives. As the Manager, you will serve as an operational contact for both internal and external stakeholders including AHS Zones, Unions, Affiliate Agencies and Contract Service Partners. You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including other health professionals, first responders, fire rescue, and police agencies to support the direction of EMS strategies and operations service delivery to meet the needs of all Albertans.

The ideal candidate will hold a diploma or degree in healthcare administration, business or leadership and will be active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP). This individual will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience within EMS, including a minimum of 3 years’ demonstrated leadership experience in either a formal or informal environment. In addition, applicants should also demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of system requirements for EMS, healthcare patient flow, transport coordination dynamics, and patient transport regulatory requirements. You possess excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with practical experience in strategic planning, leadership, as well as policy development, and project supervision. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment, ideally managing within a unionized sector. Experience in data/process analysis, strategy development and change management principles. Has the ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst groups and collaborate to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to establish positive relationships and to collaboratively achieve organizational goals. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
Training in project management and/or strategy development preferred.
