Maintenance Worker II
Your Opportunity:
This position reports to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance & Engineering and is responsible for the hands-on completion on work assignments using good judgement in accordance with all applicable codes and Hospital Policy & Procedures. The Maintenance Worker II is primarily assigned to grounds, with the potential to also be assigned to structural and may perform additional duties or assist in plumbing, HVAC/refrigeration, locksmithing, painting, and electrical duties. The incumbent performs a variety of highly skilled and complex maintenance and repair duties, requiring the use of schematics, blueprints and specifications. The Maintenance Worker II is also responsible for maintenance-related record-keeping. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiative aimed at promoting, maintaining and improving quality and safety for patients, families and caregivers. The primary location will be at the Glenrose Hospital but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone. Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Management.
Description:
As a Maintenance Worker II, you may perform routine preventative and demand maintenance activities within the exterior and interior of the building. Under general supervision, you may perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on facility architectural, structural and mechanical systems/components to ensure safety and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment. You may perform a wide range of general maintenance duties including maintenance and repair of drywall, floors and painting. Additional duties may include minor plumbing repair; minor repairs on equipment; checks on equipment for pressure and temperature; and disassembly of equipment for cleaning.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's licence. Power Engineer 5th Class Certificate required where boiler support is necessary.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must comply with Alberta Health Services regulations, policies and procedures. Must comply with Alberta OH&S Act, regulation and code. Must be able to work in physically demanding environments. Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy objects. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to identify and prioritize maintenance needs. Experience with materials and equipment associated with Grounds, Structural, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Refrigeration is required. Must have computer skills, knowledge about Microsoft programs, and building maintenance programs. Must be able to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment is essential for this position. Must be able to communicate effectively and work co-operatively with management, supervisory staff and hospital co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a hospital or related maintenance environment working with a Journeyman Tradesman preferred.
