Your Opportunity:

Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) has an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who will have opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. Residents may exhibit challenging, unpredictable responsive behaviors which require enhanced staffing expertise to provide care and oversight. Reporting to the Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide care to individuals within the Enhanced Care Unit. The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgement to assess resident needs and provides nursing care that is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Depth & breadth of nursing knowledge & complex reasoning reflective of level of education. Knowledge of nursing standards/protocols within the area of nursing specialty related to job assignment. Knowledge of basic nursing care procedures. Knowledge of scope of practice as defined by Schedule 10 of the Health Professions Act of Alberta, Licensed Practical Nurses Profession Regulation & CLPNA Standards of Practice and other guiding documents. Strong communication skills utilizing a variety of modalities (verbal, written, active listening) & ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific residents, relay resident information to primary health care provider(s), on & off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner. Assessment skills to recognize & respond appropriately to changes in resident physical, emotional, psychological status. Effectively uses information & communication technology to improve interprofessional person-centered care. Complex reasoning skills reflective of level of education to make decisions in strenuous & changing environments by compiling information from multiple sources. Sound judgment. Displays an attitude that conveys respect & dignity of all persons. Independent & shared accountability in a just culture. Compassionate & caring attitude. Contributes to the quality improvement process by working with others to identify & implement areas for improvement and improved service delivery and resident outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year clinical experience applicable to the service area(s). Previous experience in the assignment of care & supervision of unregulated health providers. Supportive Dementia. PIECES training.
