The Emergency Department at the Peter Lougheed Centre is an 88-bed, interdisciplinary unit providing care to patients across a wide range of acuity levels. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a key member of the Emergency Department team, delivering safe, timely, patient and family centered care to a diverse patient population. Specific Accountabilities: The ROT/LPN at Peter Lougheed Hospital practices to full Licensed Practical Nurse scope, providing care to orthopedic and Emergency Department patients through assessment, planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of patient care. This role supports safe, timely, and patient- and family-centred care in a fast-paced, urban Emergency Department. The successful applicant demonstrates strong organizational and prioritization skills, functions effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, and adapts to rapidly changing clinical demands. Commitment to ongoing professional development is expected, and the ROT/LPN may support staff through basic orthopedic education as required. The LPN is accountable for their professional practice in accordance with the standards, guidelines, and code of ethics established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) and Alberta Health Services policies.
Description:
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the organization's shared vision and values.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of recognized Advanced Education in Orthopedics program within Canada. Current BLS - Heart and Stroke. Current Emergency or Urgent Care experience within the last 12 months. Work within a team and accept direction as required.
Preferred Qualifications:Current certification with Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists. Previous Cast Clinic experience. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and strong decision-making ability. Demonstrates Family Centered Care, professional interpersonal and communication skills. Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills. Epic-connect care trained. Up to date ROE modules.
