Licensed Practical Nurse - Operating Room Technician
Your Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity to train as a perioperative nurse. The Licensed Practical Nurse Operating Room Technician (LPN ORT) is responsible for providing patient care using the Nursing Process in accordance with CLPNA (College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta), ORNAC (Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standards of practice. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, thorough critical thinking, problem solving & decision making as well as teach, counsel & advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS and the pillars of South Health Campus. SHC OR has several different specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Gynecology, ENT, and Sports Medicine. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide peri-operative care to patients in both the circulation and scrub roles. Perioperative training will be provided through AHS and Grant McEwen. Commitment to a comprehensive 20-week training program, followed by a full-time orientation is required. This position is built upon two phases: Phase 1 – Perioperative didactic and clinical practicum – 20 weeks. Phase 2 – Orientation to solidify practical knowledge and skill. Phase 2 requires successful completion of all criteria from phase 1.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position (including, but not limited to bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, twisting, and squatting). Ability to wear lead apron protection and personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time. Commitment to comprehensive learning and orientation is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of perioperative training program. Experience at SHC.
