Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, multi-modality environment. The LPN monitors, plans, implements and evaluates care of patients/clients and works in consultation with Physicians, RNs, Technologists, and others to meet the needs of more complex patients/clients. The LPN works collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to monitor the patient’s condition and care while in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. LPNs provide care within their scope of practice, in accordance with Alberta Health Services policy, the Health Professions Act, and the Licensed Practical Nurses Profession Regulations. They review patient history for pertinent clinical information, prioritizing those patients at risk. They recognize deviations from normal health status and potentially critical situations, and communicate assessment to members of the team, and take appropriate actions. Documents and communicates pertinent patient information in a timely manner. Participates in completing all data/information sheets as required. Provides post procedure report to Patient Care Unit when applicable. Ensures aseptic technique is practiced. Assists patient as required and relays any concerns to the appropriate person. Demonstrates safe practice with respect to radiation hazards, infection control, and blood and body fluids practices. May monitor the patient post procedure and provide patient teaching and discharge instructions. May perform sterile tray set up, disassembly and high level disinfection, including Ultrasound transducer cleaning, with appropriate training. May provide assistance to radiologists or residents during diagnostic Imaging procedures, such as providing supplies. Identifies priorities for care in collaboration with the team including the patient/client.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Shares knowledge gained through attendance at conferences, in-services, etc. with peers. Appropriately consents to and supervises care of unregulated healthcare providers and assigns care to regulated members of the healthcare team according to their scope of practice and AHS policies and procedures. Participates in quality improvement activities.
