Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Medical and Surgical Dermatology clinic at Richmond Road Diagnostic Treatment Centre is a valued team member. This area is physically demanding, requiring frequent movement, walking, and standing for the majority of the 7.75 hour shift and the ability to carry up to 30 lbs. at times. The patient population requires you to be able to physically provide assistance with mobility and positioning. The LPN needs to have excellent prioritization and communication skills, ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team in a minor surgical environment and be able to function independently and within a medical team. This position is responsible for supporting patients and physicians in clinic. This includes but is not limited to assisting with biopsies, phototherapy, patch-testing, biologic medication management, and providing surgical support. This role requires practicing to full scope of LPN practice. This position requires you to work in Medical Dermatology and the Surgical Dermatology (Wide Local Excisions etc.) Clinics.

You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to work to a full scope of practice as defined by CLPNA. A minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent (within the past 5 years) adult acute care LPN experience. Demonstrated recent nursing experience (within the past 3 years) managing complex medical/surgical patients. Demonstrated ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent patient and room turnover (including minor surgical rooms). Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to assist mobility restricted patients, move equipment, walk, bend and stand frequently during a period of work. Demonstrated ability to stand and walk for the majority of the 7.75 hour shift in the surgical dermatology area. Ability to frequently overhead reach to assist with surgical light placement and reaching for biopsy supplies and linens in cupboards. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. (surgical equipment, instrument totes). Demonstrated ability to work well with patients in a professional and courteous manner. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills. Demonstrated critical thinking and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to teach groups of patients for immunoglobulin therapy and biologics. Demonstrated excellence with patient teaching skills. Demonstrated excellent aseptic technique.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using Connect Care and Netcare. Recent experience working in a minor OR setting (within the past 5 years). Previous pediatric experience. Recent nursing experience (within the past 3 years) managing wounds. Previous case management experience. Recent surgical experience (within the past 5 years). Experience working in an ambulatory clinic.
