Your Opportunity:

Utilizing the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides care to individuals and their families impacted by obesity as a chronic disease. As the medical and surgical support in a busy ambulatory care environment, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents the patient's physical, mental, or emotional state to the physicians, and/or other team members as required. The LPN acts as the liaison between the inter-disciplinary team and other health care professionals aligned to patient care. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and computer skills are necessary for success in this position. Common skills practiced during execution of the LPN’s duties include measuring weight, blood pressure, and other Vital Signs, physical assessment, wound care and staple removal, blood glucose monitoring, review and report of test and lab results. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). 3 years recent (within the last 5 years) pre and post-operative assessment of inpatient Medical/Surgical experience is required. Previous experience in a bariatric clinic is required. Management and wound care experience is required. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and professional in the performance of all duties. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Incorporate the Royal Alex Way into everyday practice. Conflict Management skills and the ability to support clients with complex mental health challenges is required. The ability to practice trauma informed care is required. Must be able to navigate sensitive and difficult conversations. The ability to perform movements such as bending, stooping, and standing for long periods of time is required. Experience in the following computer related programs is required: Connect Care scheduling and EMR, Alberta Netcare, Outlook Express, and Microsoft office. Applicants must be able to push, pull, transfer and assist bariatric patients in wheelchairs over uneven surfaces with weights in excess of 500 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must maintain patient confidentiality. Must be flexible, able to prioritize, organize workload, and adjust to rapidly changing needs of the department. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently, as well as within a team. Must be able to deal effectively with conflict and sensitive issues.
