Your Opportunity:

An opportunity exists for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) looking to work to their full-scope of practice and who has a passion for providing patient- and family-centered care at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre. As a LPN, you will be working as a float nurse supporting three Medical Units (Unit 33, Unit 35, and Unit 43). All medical units provide care for patients with acute and complex chronic illnesses as well as occasional surgical patients. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care and should expect to work to their full scope of practice. A wide range of skill sets is required to support patient care. Unit 35 also supports patients requiring telemetry monitoring and has two palliative suites. You will be working with an interdisciplinary team, utilizing our values (AHS Cares) and Patient First Strategy in your practice to provide leading care to Albertans. The LPN is responsible for providing patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) standards of practice. You will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care within all departments. You will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will act as a patient advocate and provide a link between the other units in the facility. Through your education, experience, knowledge of current principles, and interpretation of evidence-based healthcare practices, you will play a key role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to the patient’s care, health promotion and health maintenance. This position will report to the Manager of Unit 43 and offers the opportunity for both personal and professional development within a variety of teams.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong communication skills, both written and orally. Minimum two (2) years employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care in the past (3) years. Previous experience in all forms of medication administration, blood products and administration. Experience working with palliative care patients and patients with acute and complex chronic conditions. Competent with Connect Care, MS Office Suite, TEAM’s and Zoom. Ability to work independently in different environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training courses. Palliative and Wound Care courses. Telemetry monitoring experience.
