The Village of Breton is located in west-central Alberta, Canada. Breton is a progressive community in central Alberta, located 48 km east of Drayton Valley or 100 km southwest of Edmonton. Breton is surrounded by lakes and woods perfect for camping or hiking. Several organized sports programs are available including baseball, soccer, a dance studio and gymkhana club and the town is home to a beautiful new Community Centre. Breton Continuing Care is a 23 bed unit located in a rural setting where the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works within an interdisciplinary team environment to provide client centred care. This environment is suitable for candidates who have a strong interest and skills in providing care to the elderly client, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease or other dementias. The LPN must be able to work to their full scope of practice. They work under the direction of the Registered Nurse in Charge but are required to provide leadership including direction, supervision, and client care coordination to unregulated staff. In this case coordination role the LPN must have the ability to use critical thinking skills to plan, assess, implement and evaluate resident centered care. This position provides case management to all 23 residents to meet CCHSS requirements. The suitable candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as within a team, pay attention to detail, have excellent time management and critical thinking skills, and have good communication skills.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Preferred Qualifications:

Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and willingness to learn new skills as required. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment. Recent gerontology nursing experience is an asset. Experience in a continuing care environment within the last three years preferred.
