Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) utilizes the nursing process as a member of, and in collaboration with, the inter-disciplinary team, in the delivery of consistent quality care to meet the needs of the patient/client throughout the life span. The LPN participates in the provision of health care to patients/clients by applying nursing knowledge, skills, and judgment to assess patient/client* needs and providing safe, quality nursing care for patients/clients appropriate to the LPN competencies and scope of practice. The LPN accepts responsibility for continuing competence through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research, and continuous quality activities. The LPN provides restricted activity interventions and care within the full scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN adheres to CLPNA professional practice standards and Code of Ethics and employer policies and procedures. The LPN is responsible and accountable for his/her own practice as defined by the CLPNA and for ensuring that his/her registration and practice permit are current and valid within his/her scope of practice. The LPN will be required to provide service and coverage to all the Ambulatory Clinics within the Aberhart (including general pediatrics, endocrinology, dermatology, adolescent medicine, down syndrome and any new clinics established).

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program required. Responsible to maintain and provide proof of active registration and practice permit with CLPNA, including specialized practice registration for the assigned position- required. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Health Care provider (BCLS-HCP) required. 2-3 years’ experience in Pediatric acute care and/or Pediatric Ambulatory care required. Clear communication skills in verbal and written English. Effective interpersonal, communication and time management skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team providing family centered care. Connect Care and EMR experience and up to date computer skills are required. Must be able to push/lift/pull up to 50 lbs or more, be able to stand for long periods of time, and walk for a large portion of the shift. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam with 90% or more during the course of orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) course - completed during orientation- required.
