Your Opportunity:

The Cardiac and Internal Medicine Clinics within SHC is currently recruiting a casual, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Reporting to the Unit Manager of Cardiac and Internal Medicine Clinics. The LPN is responsible for the coordination of patients attending various cardiology and internal medicine clinics at SHC. The Internal Medicine and Cardiac Clinic the LPN is required to: Take a proactive approach in the order entry of electrocardiograms (ECGs) as required. Work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate patient care. Demonstrate clear and effective communication between team members and during interactions with patients and families. Perform intake for patients including vital signs, height, weight, and medication reconciliation and intake/questionnaire forms. Demonstrate efficiency and organization in assigning patients to clinic rooms. In addition to these tasks the LPN will be required to assist with various tests and procedures in the Cardiac Diagnostics department. Cardiac Diagnostics is a fast-paced environment which requires high attention to detail, comprehensive assessment skills, and a responsive nature to ensure the needs of patients are met.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years Cardiology and Internal Medicine experience within the past 5 years (equivalent to 0.5 FTE or greater). Current dysrhythmia certification. Proficient English language skills, written and verbal. Proficiency in performing manual blood pressures. IV initiation, maintenance, and removal certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ambulatory experience within the past year (equivalent to 0.5 FTE or greater). Experience in performing orthostatic vital signs. Cardiac Diagnostics experience within the past year (equivalent to 0.5 FTE or greater) a benefit. Current FTE less than 0.5. Available for short call. Familiarity with the following IT systems: Connect Care. Netcare. MUSE.
