Your Opportunity:
Located just a few short minutes north of Edmonton, the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) serves the community of St. Albert, north Edmonton, and the surrounding rural areas, and delivers over 2,800 babies annually. The SCH is provincially recognized for its innovative Obstetrical Program, birth and post-natal care specialties- delivering an enhanced patient experience. In this Licensed Practical Nurse position working with postpartum patients, you will have the opportunity to use your advanced clinical skills to perform a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. As the successful candidate, you demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in order to provide exceptional care to postpartum patients. Preferred candidates will have a thorough understanding of the postpartum period, possess extensive knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding, and have experience handling obstetrical emergencies and obstetrical complications and/or medical conditions complicated by pregnancy. It is expected that you will maintain all required certifications and competencies while working on the unit, adhere to policies, procedures, practice guidelines, AHS Values and Code of Conduct. Characteristics and abilities that will contribute to success in this area include: resiliency, accountability, concern for accuracy, physical stamina, and manual dexterity.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 6 months of postpartum experience in the last 2 years. Certification in Newborn Resuscitation are required. A successful medication exam must be completed following interview. The ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities is essential. The candidate must be able to work well independently and within a team. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem solving skills and strong decision-making ability. Must thrive in a fast-paced, high stress environment. Experience with Connect Care. Proficiency in MS Teams. Meet physical demand requirements due to the unit's emergent nature including significant walking and standing, seated work requiring substantial arm and/or leg force, regular handling of weights: occasionally 51-100lbs, frequently 21-50lbs, and constantly 0-20lbs, pushing/pulling >180-250lbs at times. Helping patients ambulate post-delivery. Emptying and moving of linen bags.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 2 years of recent obstetrical nursing experience. Current IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) certification an asset.
