In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides a professional, caring, and comprehensive approach to the Vascular, ENT, Oral Max, and plastic surgical patients. The LPN provides nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients and families in Unit 58 to promote, maintain, or restoring health, illness and safety prevention. This unit uses the CoAct and collaborative model of care. PLC Unit 58 maintains an excellent relationship with its sister unit Vascular Special Care Unit 59. There may be instances where the successful candidate is asked to provide assistance on Unit 59.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:3-5 years of surgical nursing experience (recent within 1 year). Current IV, CVC and PCA certifications. Compliance with the Alberta Health Services Hand Hygiene Policies. Understanding of CoACT and collaborative care in the Acute Care setting. Basic computer skills. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in strong patient teaching skills, the ability to be self-directed, independent decision-making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and effective maintaining collaborative working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience in Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Plastics, and complex wound care, including negative pressure wound therapy.
