An exciting opportunity exists to grow and strengthen your skills and work at your full scope of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse within a collaborative team at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Unit 44 is a 32 bed in-patient medical unit providing excellent patient and family centered care supporting the acute care needs of our patients. As a Licensed Practical Nurse on Unit 44 you will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and support workers to promote patient care in a unit culture that values and respects individual team members and their expertise. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound nursing judgment; patient advocacy and patient teaching skills; time management and prioritization skills; conflict resolution skills and foster a positive team work environment. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an inter-professional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The candidate must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching, assisting with patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Weight requirement for patient care can be from 10 to 125lbs.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:1 year nursing experience within the last 3 years in an acute care (medical/surgical) unit. Participation in a unit or site-based quality. Improvement or safety council or other unit workflow review committee. Completion of ROLS annually. Must be able to complete full duties of a bedside nurse, with no pushing/pulling/lifting restrictions. Unit 44 Experience.
Preferred Qualifications:3 years nursing experience within the last 5 years in an acute care (medical/surgical) unit preferred. Experience with Connect Care preferred. Central venous catheter (CVC) certification preferred. Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) certification preferred. Skin and wound care experience including VAC dressings preferred. Resume attachment an asset.
