Your Opportunity:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Indigenous Wellness Clinic, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to Indigenous patients, families and communities while ensuring their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You will provide high quality, culturally informed and safe care to individuals across the lifespan. Responsibilities: Assessment, monitoring, care and treatment of clients with a variety of medical conditions. Develop culturally informed, holistic care plans (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) within a multidisciplinary team in a family-centered care environment. Assist with the Diabetes Wellness Program and ensure continuity of care with the patient’s primary care provider and home community. Abilities: Ability to work to full scope of practice as defined by CLPNA. Demonstrated ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities in a dynamic environment with the capacity for self-direction and independent work with minimal supervision. Demonstrates initiative, good judgement and accountability along with good interpersonal and communication skills. Must possess a sound understanding of Indigenous peoples and the determinants of health. Ability to assist clients with transfers, move equipment, walk, bend and stand frequently as well as sit for extended periods during a period of work. Computer literacy skills mandatory with preference to Connect Care, Netcare and Microsoft Office.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). A minimum three (3) years of recent demonstrated experience in any of the following but not limited to: Acute Care, Primary Care, Community or Public Health, Chronic Disease Management (Diabetes Education), Mental Health and Addictions, Harm Reduction, Maternal-Child Health, Palliative Care, Rural Nursing and/or Health Promotion/Screening Strategies. Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and communities. This position is part of Primary Care Alberta. Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to speak an Indigenous language (i.e. Cree, Dene, etc.) would be an asset. Group facilitation skills would be preferred.
