Your Opportunity:
4A5/6 Cardiac Surgery Inpatient Unit is a dynamic, fast paced suite that focuses on the post-op recovery, rehabilitation and transition of cardiac surgery patients and their families. As a team member of this specialized unit, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works closely in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in the provision of excellence & seamless patient care. Our patient population is particularly complex, and acute, and requires our LPN’s to possess a high level of clinical knowledge and skills and work to full scope. The LPN is also expected to play a key role in providing team direction, clinical leadership, & advocacy for our patients.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:The successful candidate should also demonstrate proficient communication, assessment, documentation and critical thinking skills with the ability to prioritize and time manage appropriately. They will accept responsibility for maintaining unit skills through ongoing professional development, participation in unit training classes & maintain skills through annual recertification, participate in unit quality improvement activities. Must have completed of all of the LPNA practice modules for LPN Restricted Activities.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those candidates with experience on Cardiac Surgery or Cardiology. Successful completion of the Cardiac Surgery or Cardiology Unit Specific program. Hold active clinical training and experience for Telemetry, Pacemakers & Epicardial Pacing Wire Care & Blood withdrawal from CVC, Central line removal, and Heart/Lung Transplant training.
