Your Opportunity:

Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on our Day Surgery Unit. Wetaskiwin is a large rural hospital, and you will have the opportunity to work as part of our surgical and endoscopy teams. Wetaskiwin is a busy OR with three theaters performing a variety of general, gynecological, and ophthalmologic surgeries in addition to the established endoscopy program. We are excited to be working on expanding our programs in alignment with the Alberta Surgical Initiative and are looking for a dedicated LPN to join our team. You will report to the Operating Room department Manager and will be responsible for providing pre-operative and post-operative patient care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with College of Licenced Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). You are responsible for providing basic to advanced clinical nursing practice and maintaining safety throughout patient’s pre-operative to post-operative experiences. As the patient advocate utilizing both evidence-based measures and outcomes, you will provide a link between the home or Care Unit and the Operating Room. You may be eligible for the Rural Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program if you meet other eligibility requirements. Wetaskiwin is located 70 km south of Edmonton in the heart of Central Alberta. The city name comes from the Cree word which means the hills where peace was made. Wetaskiwin has an extensive trail system that leads you around the entire city with a direct connection to By-the-Lake Park.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
