As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) covering the community of Viking and surrounding area, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in your community. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will use your strong assessment, organizational, and leadership skills to deliver quality nursing care to clients in the community and to provide leadership and supervision of Health Care Aides. The successful candidate will play a key role on the interdisciplinary team, collaborating in the delivery of holistic, client and family centered care. Your role will require you to work independently in client homes, lift and carry medical bags and be comfortable working in all weather conditions. In this role, you will utilize your strong oral and written communication and deliver quality nursing care to clients in all developmental stages in the community. Utilizing your experience in wound care, palliative care and client teaching, you will take a collaborative approach to meeting health goals, contribute to the nursing diagnosis and participate in nursing interventions and outcomes. This position is based out of Viking Home Care. Viking is located approximately 136 km southeast of Edmonton, Alberta. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Driving in all weather conditions. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position: This position requires frequent physical demands including walking, bending, lifting, and standing and driving for long periods of time. Transferring patients of varying sizes and degrees of mobility. Transporting supplies and equipment. CCHSS standards and AHS qualifications is mandatory and documentation that such education requirements are being met must be submitted on a regular basis Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Basic computer skills. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment as well as to work independently to full scope of LPN practice. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Able to meet the physical demands of the position. At least 3 years recent Continuing Care/Acute Care and/or Home Care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care or computerized charting systems. Experience with supervision of HCAs and assignment of care to the discipline, by also providing training for delegations of client specific tasks, as required.
