PLC mental health team is a group of dynamic multidisciplinary teams that work together to ensure our patients have the best care and experience. Our site runs six Addictions and Mental Health programs (two General psyche units, Day hospital, Psyche ED, Consultation Liaison and the specialty Mental Health Short Stay Unit (SSU). As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. This position is responsible for communicating with other departments and services, across the Addiction and Mental Health continuum, to ensure the provision of comprehensive, high-quality care to promote recovery and wellness. The opportunity to be a strong advocate for the patient is an integral role as you will facilitate the appeal process for patient certification. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone. Demonstrated leadership, organizational and clinical skills in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Computer proficiency. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques. Minimum 1-year recent nursing experience in an acute in-patient psychiatric setting. Working knowledge of Psychotropic medications. Experience in administering the Mental Status examination. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. Knowledge of the addiction and mental health continuum of care. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Candidate should be willing to work days, nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). IV Certification. Working knowledge or experience about the various therapeutic modalities i.e., CBT, DBT, Supportive therapy, Motivational interview. Knowledge/Understanding of DSM-IV and 5. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care is preferred.
