Located on the 11th floor, the unit offers stunning views of downtown Calgary, the river valley, and the Rocky Mountains. Unit 112 is a fast-paced, 28-bed cardiac monitored unit within Alberta Health Services, providing specialized care for acute strokes, brain injuries, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological issues. As a hyperacute neuroscience/neurosurgery LPN, you will work to your full scope of practice, providing nursing care for patients and families in a team-oriented environment. Our multidisciplinary team includes NP’s, Nurse Clinicians, LPN’s, HCA’s, MD’s, OT, PT, SW, dieticians, and pharmacists, emphasizing strong inter-professional communication and teamwork. Unit 112 offers advancement opportunities such as hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, vasoactive medication administration, and specialized care for external ventricular drains, acute stroke management, spinal cord injuries, and other acute neurological issues. For new graduates, we provide a comprehensive orientation and mentoring program. The FMC campus offers various amenities to support staff wellbeing, including shops like Starbucks, Good Earth, and Tim Hortons. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Preferred Qualifications:One to two years’ experience in an acute post-operative / surgical setting. Recent neuroscience/neurosurgical nursing experience. Cardiac monitoring experience. Previous experience orientating new staff or preceptoring students. Previous connect care experience.
