Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team who utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills in the delivery of consistent quality care to meet the needs of the client through the life span. The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgment to assess client needs and provides nursing care that is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. The LPN embraces the philosophy of person centered care, demonstrating the principles of the philosophy established within AHS policies and procedures and established standards. The LPN recognizes that each client has unique values and personal history and that each person has an equal right to dignity, respect, and to participate fully in their environment. The LPN is responsible for creating partnerships and relationships with clients, families and coworkers that will lead to the best outcomes and enhance quality of life. The LPN accepts responsibility for continuing competency through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality improvement activities. The LPN provides restricted activities and care within the full scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN adheres to CLPNA professional practice standards and Code of Ethics and Alberta Health Services (AHS) policies, procedures and guidelines. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
