Your Opportunity:

This is a supervisory position responsible primarily for leadership, supervision, task allocation, and oversight within Community and Rural. The position is also heavily engaged in consultation and coordination with management, other Lead Hands / Sections, project staff, contractors, and numerous other stakeholders. The position reports to the Facilities Manager. The position oversees numerous frontline staff. The Lead Hand must have at least a 5th Class Power Engineers certificate along with a Journeyman tradesperson certified to perform work in an applicable trade, who possesses strong leadership abilities in addition to technical knowledge. The incumbent is considered part of the leadership team and will be expected to demonstrate leadership while effectively motivating staff to produce timely, quality work and to embody the AHS values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety. The Lead Hand is expected to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and has the authority to take initiative within assigned areas of responsibility.

Description:

As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in trades from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Required Qualifications:

High School education or equivalent along with a Journeyman Certification in a related discipline, and a minimum of Fifth Class Certificate in Power Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 - 5 years related experience in building operations in a leadership role and building maintenance experience (prior relevant experience may be credited towards minimum). Must be in good physical condition with no physical limitations and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have proven experience operating large, motorized equipment such as lifts, etc. Must possess basic computer skills, in addition to good verbal and written communication skills.
