Your Opportunity:

Practicing within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care- South, the Kinesiologist is a collaborative member of the health care team, delivering holistic, comprehensive care, to individuals with acute/chronic kidney disease. Under the direction of the Manager, the Kinesiologist is responsible for developing and implementing evidence-based best practice in the area of exercise and healthy lifestyle promotion. This includes assessing patients for exercise capability, prescribing regular exercise regimes, and monitoring the immediate and long-term effects of the exercise prescription. The Kinesiologist collaborates with the Manager to expand the reach of exercise programming and to engage other members of the health care team in the provision of exercise in various settings. The incumbent will be working at/or out of the Hemodialysis units in Calgary.

Description:

As a Kinesiologist, you may be working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, utilizing evidence-based and client-centred practice. You may be performing assessment of exercise tolerance for the purpose of developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining appropriate exercise prescriptions/programs as well as referring patients (clients, residents) appropriately to other healthcare programs and/or services. You will take a health promotion perspective, providing self-management support and guiding the patient towards achieving improvements in their health and physical functioning by conducting pre-participation evaluations, screening of health status, and outcome measurement tests. You may be developing, supervising, monitoring and modifying the exercise programs, supervising clients both individually and in a group-focused program, and providing education to clients and their families.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, or equivalent exercise science degree. Current Clinical Exercise Physiologist to (CSEP) or the American College of Sports Medicine's Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

BCLS certification required. Minimum 2 years current experience working with populations with chronic disease required. Clinical background/experience in kinesiology or exercise/lifestyle counseling, testing, prescribing and monitoring of special populations in Renal. Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment required. Intermediate computer skills required. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively as a team player while maintaining effective and respectful working relationships required. Travel required to facilitate exercise programs in community and AHS sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Kinesiology preferred. Strong knowledge of exercise testing protocols in all areas of exercise physiology including anthropometry, strength, flexibility and aerobic capacity preferred. Experience in providing services to diverse renal patients’ groups including Renal pre-transplant, hemodialysis, PD and CKD preferred. Leadership skills, and team leadership experiences preferred.
