Your Opportunity:

Are you passionate about improving healthcare through modern architecture and purposeful technology change? Health Shared Services (HSS) IT is modernizing how digital services support care delivery across Alberta, and we’re hiring a Solution Architect to help lead that transformation. This is a multi-domain architecture role - not aligned to a single product, platform, or application development team. You will work across vendor platforms and custom solutions, on prem and cloud, partnering with clinical and business leaders, service owners, and delivery teams to shape outcomes that are safe, usable, secure, and supportable. You are a hands-on architect who can start in ambiguity: run discovery, map value streams and capabilities, define target-state options, and translate them into a sequenced roadmap. You’ll collaborate across service and organizational boundaries in an IT service management environment and help teams deliver iteratively while balancing stability, privacy, and patient safety.

Description:

Your key responsibilities include: 1) Discover & Map Lead value stream and capability mapping with clinical areas; document current state, pain points, and desired outcomes. Define target-state options and transition roadmaps that sequence value delivery across services and platforms. 2) Design & Decide Produce end-to-end solution architectures (context, data, integration, security/privacy, and NFRs) and drive key design decisions. Establish integration and data patterns (API, event, batch) that are secure, reusable, and aligned to enterprise principles. 3) Deliver & Enable Provide architectural guidance to delivery teams; remove blockers; support rapid prototyping where it reduces uncertainty. Mentor analysts and developers; build internal capability in architecture thinking and modern delivery practices. 4) Operate & Govern Partner with service owners to ensure operability: monitoring/observability, reliability, support readiness, and clear ownership. Participate in architecture and change governance; present options with trade-offs and support investment planning (cost/risk/value). 5) Improve the System Contribute to standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns; continuously learn and apply emerging approaches responsibly within privacy and safety constraints. What you’ll bring to the role: Broad architectural capability spanning business, application, integration, and information architecture. A “commando” mindset: comfortable starting alone, bringing others along, and turning ambiguity into actionable architecture. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across clinical, technical, and executive stakeholders. A DevOps mindset focused on automation, continuous improvement, and reliable operations. A sense of curiosity and desire to continually learn and improve yourself.

Clear written communication skills (architecture decision records, diagrams, standards) and strong collaboration across clinical, technical, and vendor partners.
