Your Opportunity:

Emergency Health Services in Alberta relies on a robust, secure, and resilient communications network to support frontline paramedics, dispatchers, and operational teams. We are seeking a dedicated Communications Systems Technician to help maintain and support the mission‑critical radio and communications technologies that enable rapid, coordinated emergency response across the province. In this role, you will directly contribute to public safety by ensuring that paramedics and dispatch teams have reliable, secure, and high‑quality communication tools. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical support for portable and mobile radios used by paramedics and operational staff, including troubleshooting, repairs, and user assistance. Coordinate with the Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System support teams. Support and maintain encrypted radio communication networks, ensuring secure key management and compliance with provincial and organizational security standards. Administer and troubleshoot call logging systems used for incident review, quality assurance, and legal compliance. Support radio dispatch consoles within Emergency Communications Centres, including configuration, monitoring, and maintenance. Assist with the operation and upkeep of radio infrastructure, including repeaters, towers, antennas, IP‑based backhaul, and interoperability gateways. Work closely with dispatch operations, field supervisors, IT teams, and external vendors to resolve issues and implement system improvements. Maintain accurate documentation, including programming records, asset inventories, encryption key logs, and system diagrams. Participate in after‑hours or on‑call rotations to support critical system availability. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance communication reliability and operational readiness.

Description:

As an IT Analyst II, you will provide technical support related to information technology applications either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions. You will ensure reliable operations of information systems, resolve complex technical problems, find solutions to customer needs, and lead projects and program initiatives. You will be responsible for more advanced application, telecom or technology support duties. You will investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex problems that have typically been escalated several levels before assignment to this position, and will translate business requirements into technical requirements for a solution and recommend a potential approach to the vendor. You will analyse the solution provided to ensure that it fits both technical requirements and business needs. You will also spend time on project or initiative leadership and delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Diploma or Certificate in Electronics Engineering or Radio Systems Technology. 3 years of experience Supporting Radio and Communication Technologies. Familiarity with Enterprise IP network technologies. Experience Installing, configuring, and repairing radio hardware. Experience with Component‑level repair, fabrication and testing. Understanding of RF power, propagation, and distance. Knowledge of modulation techniques (AM, FM, digital). Familiarity with antennas, repeaters, and communication systems (e.g., TETRA, P25). Strong Troubleshooting and analytical skills. Clear communication and documentation abilities. Experience maintaining mission critical systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Radio Operator Certifications. Radio Frequency safety Certifications. Radio Communication support experience in a public safety environment. Understanding of Dispatch Center IT Infrastructure.
