The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Staff within the Emergency department work in a state of the art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) for Emergency UAH/Stollery, uses principles of adult learning and assesses, plans, implements and evaluates education and development needs of staff. The incumbent facilitates, coordinates and supports the implementation of educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and in-service/continuing education in collaboration with CNE team and Unit Managers. Other duties include promoting the clinical competence of staff through changes in policy, procedures, protocols, and technology. Liaison and collaboration with CNEs at other sites to enhance Emergency practice throughout the zone program is essential.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong computer skills are necessary. Experience with in-service and program development, implementation and evaluation is required candidates must be highly motivated and self-directed. A minimum of 10 years recent tertiary Emergency experience is required. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. CTAS, ACLS, PALS, instructor required. Required to support clinical staff on the floor, substantial walking and standing. Required pushing, pulling, reaching overhead all part of the job. Strong clinical skills required within the last 2 years. Previous experience in a CNE position is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current instructor level certification in TNCC, ENPC, CPR (instructor level) preferred. Experience developing education materials for both staff and patients is preferred. Connect Care experience.
