Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. The Instructor-Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for facilitating education based on principles of adult learning for staff in Continuing Care. The CNE: assesses, designs, creates, facilitates, coordinates and evaluates the implementation of education to promote clinical competence & the best possible client care. acts as a role model & resource to staff for professional development & clinical competency. works with an interdisciplinary team & consults with managers to determine learning needs & operational requirements. Supports new staff & encourages best practice related to nursing. Supports the use of RAI as a clinical assessment tool through the provision of RAI education, reviews, & one on one coaching & mentorship. Supports clinical service delivery, the integration & workflow development of Connect Care into nursing practice. Facilitates site based training & workshops & is instrumental in content creation for the Home Living portfolio. Attends home visits, clinic visits & case conferences with clinical staff. Provides leadership & expertise for nursing best practice. Chairs nursing meetings & committee meetings as required. Maintains competence in advanced clinical practice relevant to Home Living & acts as a consultant to staff/management regarding clinical issues. Influences & supports a culture of professional growth. Assists with the assessment of education needs of staff & the identification of appropriate learning resources.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Minimum of 5 years of recent Home Living experience. Current working knowledge of Connect Care. Experience with development, implementation, facilitation and evaluation of education materials and programming is required, within the Home Living portfolio. Proven exemplary communication, interpersonal and organization skills are essential. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities, along with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment are vital. The CNE will be based out of one network office with travel between sites required. At the time of interview, you will be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge and proficiency by completing a skills test. Must have working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook and Internet. Physically capable of performing nursing tasks which could include transfer of clients. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Post graduate studies or certification in adult education, gerontology, chronic disease management and/or palliative care would be an asset. Experience in a clinical educator role, preferably within the Continuing Care portfolio.
