Infection Control Practitioner

Your Opportunity:

As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you are a patient safety leader who supports improvements in infection prevention and control across the Calgary Zone. In this specialized role, you will work directly with Continuing Care and Supportive Living facilities that operate as contracted partners under the Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) Provincial Health Agency. You will provide expert consultation to facility leaders and frontline teams across diverse care environments. This includes navigating contracted-care environments where policies, responsibilities, and operational models may vary, requiring strong communication, relationship building, and strategic problem-solving skills. Your work will focus on strengthening IPC practices, supporting partners to meet standards, reduce healthcare-associated infections, and enhance resident safety and quality of care. Key responsibilities include: Visiting continuing care and supportive living facilities across the Calgary Zone to meet with leadership and front line teams. Interpreting and applying IPC standards, legislation, and evidence-based practices to guide contracted partners in meeting provincial and organizational requirements. Supporting outbreak management, risk assessments, site practice review audits, and quality-improvement initiatives. Serving as a trusted resource and role model, maintaining strong communication and collaboration with both AHS teams and external partners. Facilitating education, coaching, and capacity-building to strengthen IPC knowledge and practice across contracted facilities. Your leadership will help advance IPC excellence across Alberta’s continuing care system and foster strong, effective partnerships that support safer care for residents.

As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you will be a patient safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. You will facilitate change through interpretation and application of standards, and provide best practice recommendations across the spectrum of the organization with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and preventing health-care associated infections (HAI).
