Health Information Management Professional II
Your Opportunity:
As a Clinical Coding Lead (CCL), you will ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of clinical coding in accordance with national and provincial coding standards, directly supporting organizational decision-making, patient outcomes, and regulatory reporting. You will be responsible for managing work queues in Connect Care (CC), the Provincial Clinical Information System (CIS) and you will support the growth and development of Clinical Coding Specialists (CCS) through training, auditing and mentoring. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for continuous improvements to clinical documentation and workflow efficiencies within CC with a patient centric focus. Applicants are required to pass a provincial coding proficiency test with a score of 70% prior to advancing to the interview. Candidates will be required to create and deliver a 5-minute presentation on a specified subject as part of the recruitment process. Location negotiable within Alberta Northern Allowance in place (for applicable geographical locations) Key accountabilities: Directs and optimizes the management of coding workqueues within CC, ensuring efficiency and compliance with provincial processes Monitors, investigates, reconciles and remediates issues in CC Data Collection workqueues and workflows and escalates as appropriate Reviews clinical documentation; applies diagnoses, interventions, and coding conventions Reviews and remediates edits and warnings Responds to coding queries from CCSs in adherence with provincial and national standards. Acts as preceptor to HIM Program students Maintain confidentiality of all Alberta Health Services (AHS) information in accordance with Health Information Act, Freedom of Information and Privacy and other privacy legislation and shall comply with AHS Information Privacy and Information Security policies

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years of coding experience across all visit types (DAD & NACRS) and specialties. Knowledge of current Canadian Coding Standards and Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting Standards (NACRS) Abstracting Manuals for the collection of diagnoses, interventions and specific data elements. Experience with CC Clinical Information System, Provincial Coding & Abstracting System (PCAS), and Encoder software. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and technical skills to effectively handle the demands of the workload and deadlines for regulatory reporting. Effective use of resource materials and critical decision-making ability Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in leading change management initiatives within Health Information Management Advanced skills in data analysis and the use of health information technologies. Extensive knowledge of Case Mix Groups, and Resource Intensity Weights methodologies.
