Come join our team and make a difference in the lives of patients and families at Peter Lougheed Hospital. The Emergency Department at the Peter Lougheed Centre is entering an exciting new chapter. With the final phase of our state-of-the-art emergency department nearing completion, we are preparing to open at full capacity in early 2026. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Health Care Aide (HCA) works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide care to patients of varying acuity levels in a fast-paced environment. This role is integral to supporting patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of the department. Specific Accountabilities: Assist in the delivery of patient care under the direction of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the Emergency Department. Perform tasks related to designated procedures within the department, ensuring adherence to established protocols. Perform Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and obtain vital signs as directed. Maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and ensure all equipment is in good working order across all areas of the department
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:Successful completion of Accredited Health Care Aide course or equivalent experience required. Current BCLS-HCP Certification required. Demonstrated ability on Code Team as BLS certified responder required. Demonstrated self-direction within the scope and duties of the job required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to provide basic patient care and comfort required.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent emergency experience preferred. Connect care trained within Emergency module. Demonstrated knowledge of Emergency Department workflow, processes and supplies/equipment preferred. Up to date ACE modules.
