We are looking for someone like you to join our team as a Health Care Aide (HCA) to work in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute! Situated in the lively and beautiful city of Edmonton, the provincial capital of Alberta, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is a world leader in complex cardiac care and surgery. With a collaborative approach, our team of highly skilled cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac care professionals, researchers and educators are advancing the prevention, detection, treatment and study of cardiovascular disease. As the leading heart institute in western Canada, the Mazankowski has the best and brightest healthcare team to care for the most complex and chronic cardiac patients. Patients come to the facility from not only Edmonton, but from all over northern Alberta, northern B.C., the fellow Canadian Prairies provinces (SK & MB), the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. This HCA opportunity functions as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, and is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care; collaborative decision-making alongside the multidisciplinary team is also a key part of this role. This position is for an HCA in CICU. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with patient mobilization, transfers and ADLs. The incumbent will also be required to clean equipment, stock and maintain general unit organization, and manage program specific initiatives intended for this position.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide Course (or equivalent) and BCLS - HCP (Heart & Stroke) are required. The candidate must have acute care experience, computer familiarity and the ability to work independently. The candidate must have the physical capability of performing all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
