Your Opportunity:
Unit 46 is a fast-paced, high acuity 48-bed medical teaching unit with a focus on complex, multi-system acute medical patients. Exciting opportunity to work up to Full Scope of Practice on a 48-bed Acute Internal Medicine Medical Inpatient Unit. You will help to advance the unit’s values of: Collaborative practice, Patient and family centered care and evidence-based practice while working in a dynamic team environment that supports learning. This position is responsible for performing tasks related to daily living activities and other specific procedures on the nursing unit. Heavy lifting, as well as repetitive movements, are necessary during the course of performing duties on this unit. You will have the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative care service delivery model (CoAct). Collaborative practice is defined as care providers working together to contribute their knowledge, skills and abilities to patient care in a process of continuous communication and shared decision-making among patients/families and all of the care providers who are involved in a patient's care to achieve outcomes that could not have been achieved by health care providers working either alone or in parallel. Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current or recent (with 6-12 months) acute care experience is required. We will consider recent (within 3-6 months) acute care practicums. Must be registered in the HCA Directory. Must have and Active HCA License. Current 3 months and above Internal Medicine experience- an asset if experience was on Unit 36/46 FMC. Grade 12 diploma. HCA certificate or equivalent training. Demonstrated effective Interpersonal and Communication Skills. Demonstrated ability to read and speak English fluently. Demonstrated prioritization and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to work within a team and autonomously. Demonstrated emphasis on Infection Prevention and Control practices including hand hygiene. Basic computer skills are required. Current BCLS-HCP certification. Ability to manage the job classification of “heavy physical demand” level as per the AHS Job Demands Summary. Ability to wear an AHS fit-tested N95 respirator when required.
Preferred Qualifications:Proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Strength in Areas of: Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, Organization and Time Management. Ability to Contribute as Team Member, Learn within a Dynamic Environment and Adapt/Cope with Change. Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with Connect Care and clinical documentation standards.
