As a Health Care Aide, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team you will be an integral part of the the patient experience, seeing a diverse populations of Albertans and their families who require surgical stay and ensure a positive surgical experience. To be successful in this role, you will possess an understanding of how patients and their families are at the center of care strategies and strive to be inclusive and welcoming to reflect the needs and supports required for the populations that we serve (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). As the successful candidate you will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: time management and prioritization skills in a rapidly changing environment: be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team; initiative and independence in a team environment; problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; actively integrate patient and family centered care principles; basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office); and show compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies. Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short¿term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health¿care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients¿ hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients¿ mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health¿care professionals.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of one (1) years of HCA experience within last three (3) years in an acute inpatient surgical nursing unit. You must be able to be on your feet for extended periods of time. You will be required to lift, bend and push a variety of weights while maintaining safe body mechanics stipulated by AHS It’s Your Move patient handling program. Demonstrated positive and effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means, in a professional and mature manner. Recent work experience in a short-stay surgical setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals who have successfully demonstrated an ability to independently initiate and perform tasks with minimal supervision. Experience using Connect Care. Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity Training. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.).
