Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart & Stroke. Minimum 1 year experience as a Health Care Aide in an acute medical nursing unit within the last 3 years. Proficiency in English verbal, written, read communication skills. Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to walking, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods of the shift. Safe transferring of adult patients of varying mobility, transporting supplies and equipment. Demonstrates and meets infection prevention and control requirements by following standard practice for all patients, including proper handwashing technique.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in an acute medical nursing unit within the last 3 years. Familiarity with CoAct. HCA Documentation and experience with Connect Care charting. Completion of HCA communication course. It’s Your Move or other related safe patient handling training. See the Person and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within the last 2 years. A demonstrated ability to work with seniors/patients with reactive behaviors and cognitively impaired patients.
