Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:In collaboration with patients & families, and multidisciplinary health team members, the HCA is responsible for delivering personal care by supporting activities of daily living (i.e. grooming, feeding, toileting…), assisting with assessments, procedures, providing comfort measures, documenting care/observations/activities in the patient record. Other duties (not limited to) include: portering, delivering specimens to labs, maintaining inventory and ordering supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and monitoring unit tidiness. The successful applicant will be orientated and may be cross-trained to the other clinical areas within its program, and over time to other management selected Stollery ambulatory & inpatient programs to enable intermittent system capacity requirements. The HCA plays a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care, whose actions reflect the shared mission, vision and values of AHS, and adhere to Stollery’s policies, guidelines, and procedures. Preferred Qualifications:Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and includes crouching, lifting up to 50lbs, patient transfers, and the ability to reach over the shoulder. Work occurs in a fast-paced environment. The role requires provision of constant care. Preference will be given to candidates with recent ambulatory experience in pediatrics. Preference will be given to candidates with previous childcare experience and/or education.
