Your Opportunity:

Emergency Health Services – Alberta (EHS), Ambulance Dispatch, has an exciting opportunity for a student who is currently enrolled in full time studies in Geographic Information System (GIS) or a Geography-related post-secondary program. Based at Ambulance Dispatch Headquarters in Calgary, this is a 8-month coop position with full time day shifts. This position is an excellent way to experience how GIS is utilized within healthcare. You would be joining a highly skilled and talented GIS team working within an Esri Enterprise environment, to support the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Your main duties include using Esri Software to edit, normalize, standardize, and digitize a variety of geospatial datasets. The EHS GIS Coop Work Experience position is a vital role within our EHS Department. Your eye for detail and knack for data accuracy will enable EHS field staff to promptly and efficiently respond to Albertans experiencing medical emergencies. The EHS GIS Coop Work Experience Student reports to the EHS GIS Team’s Manager and will require regular in-person attendance to team meetings in Calgary, AB. This student position plays a vital role in helping maintain the data used to support dispatch solutions used by Emergency Health Services (EHS) to locate or route to medical events. Primary duties include but are not limited to: Editing/updating map features within an Esri enterprise-level geodatabase. Normalize or standardize GIS data. Georeferencing images and digitizing map features. Core work hours are between 9am & 4pm, No Overtime.

Required Qualifications:

Currently registered in a full time Geographic Information System (GIS)/Geography-related post-secondary program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The student must have experience updating Esri geodatabases with strong data editing skills, and experience with data validation tools such as topology and attribute rules. They must have experience using Esri’s ArcGIS Pro software, be able to georeferenced images, and proven data validation and quality control skills. Communication and task management are also vital to this position. When applying, please attach a portfolio of work representing your experience in cartography.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with FME Form software or Hexagon/Intergraph technology is also considered a strong asset. Experience in government and/or emergency services is an asset.
