As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meals to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This Regular Part Time position is located at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a NFS Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork, and organizational skills to independently to prepare, handle, portion and package food items for both patients and retail, assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned and work together with the cook to provide quality food and service to customers. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively with the NFS Supervisor and Manager, co-workers, and customers. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies.

Description:

As a Food Service II, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas. In addition, you will perform specialized duties which may include ingredient/inventory controls and providing customer service support.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of a safe food handling certificate from an accredited food services program. Computer skill level to meet requirements of food service programs (For example, CBORD).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food service or commercial restaurant or healthcare setting is required. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to read, write and communicate with proficiency in English. All new employees must be able to attend a 2-day Patient Food Service New Employee Orientation followed by an onsite orientation shift. Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year of customer service experience. WHMIS training. Experience with preparing food and beverages for specialized diets, monitoring waste, auditing, calculating food cost, recipe development and/or catering service (for retail positions), inventory management, receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, “FIFO”, and commercial food equipment. Cash handling experience (if required). Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment.
