Finance Consultant

The Finance Consultant is a key team member of the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbent supports both the academic and clinical sections of the Department and is responsible for the day to day management of all financial aspects within the department - AHS and University of Calgary. This includes the daily management of the Department’s Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) and the various Clinical Alternative Relationship Plans (ARP), including coordinating Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable transactions, generating, updating and tracking physician contracts, and ensuring accountabilities are met. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for auditing and the creation and preparation of quarterly financial statements and reports for external and internal audiences. The incumbent is responsible for physician resource management and workforce planning for all physicians within the Department of Pediatrics. This position is the main point of contact for Departmental financial information. The incumbent will work closely with both physician and operational leadership and staff and will include significant liaison with the AHS Corridor Chief Medical Officer’s Office and AHS Finance, University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine and the University of Calgary finance office. This role will be located at the Alberta Children’s Hospital site and will be working with a multi-disciplinary team including the Corridor Clinical Department Manager of Pediatrics, Department Head, Manager of Administrative Services, and Physician Affairs Lead.
Description:
Financial and Project Support for the Department of Pediatrics: Develop and manage the overall academic and clinical financial systems for the Department. Establish and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures. Work with Senior Managers, Physician Leaders and staff to: Negotiate project budget and expenditures within all areas of the department. Present and prepare recommendations, briefing and reports for senior executive staff. AMHSP and Clinical ARP Administration and Development: Timely preparation and submission of AMHSP funding requests which require direct liaison with AHS, the University of Calgary, Alberta Health and the Alberta Medical Association, and other stakeholders. Oversight of the Clinical ARP contracts with various Pediatrics Sub-Specialty areas. Manage, create, and report department activity to internal and external stakeholders. Manage and track the department’s workforce. Financial Management and Physician Resource Management: Managing paymaster functions for department wide transactions. Coordination of the Department of Pediatrics budgets; review and approval and budget variance analysis as required. Preparation of financial forecasts, cost benefit analysis, detailed variance analysis, and other types of financial and data analysis as requested by Department operations and other associated business units. Create and manage Department of Pediatrics workforce reports on a Quarterly basis and as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance. 3-5 years financial and statistical experience preparing and managing budgets. Experience in a leadership capacity is required. Proven experience developing, implementing and evaluating innovations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Clear, concise, and effective presentation of information to stakeholders at all levels is required. A strong sense of diplomacy, negotiation, and tact when under pressure. Experience with workforce planning. A broad scope of vision that is able to assess upstream and downstream decision impacts. Ability to work independently, make decisions and take action with minimum supervision. Ability to meet and respect demanding timelines. Strong creative skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Working towards Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. MBA. Experience working with physicians and within academic setting. Experience working within an organization of considerable size and complexity.
