Executive Director
Your Opportunity:
The Executive Director for Surgical Services is a key leadership position in the Central Corridor and reports directly to the Senior Operating Officer at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. This position is responsible and accountable for leading operational teams in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Central Corridor Surgical Services Care (RDRHC and 16 Rural Surgical Facilities) by supporting and implementing the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The Executive Director represents the corridor at appropriate AHS provincial committees and venues. The Executive Director, Surgical Services, will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders to provide operational leadership to and oversee all related programs and services. The Executive Director for Surgical Services is an active member of the site management team and provides leadership in resource planning and allocation, operational objectives, and site strategic plan and priorities. The Executive Director, for Surgical Services provides direct support and expert counsel to the Senior Operating Officer, RDRHC, and Rural Nursing and MDRD Management Teams on all aspects of the surgery and Endoscopy program and service. This position establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local, provincial, and national representatives and health care stakeholders including government departments. The Executive Director of RDRHC Surgery, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDRD), and Endoscopy and Programmatic Lead for Surgical Services is accountable to effectively lead the assessment, development, and evaluation of service and division objectives regarding implementation, operationalization, management and monitoring of provincially integrated delivery of Central Corridor Surgery, Quality and Endoscopy programs.

In addition, incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Progressive leadership experience, including five years experience in a management role. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management. Knowledge and demonstrated principles of business planning, modeling concepts, and program and project management theories, principles, and practices. Uses strategic thinking, considering long-term goals assessing options and implications. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex, and sensitive issues. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and builds solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees, and other partners.

Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Health Leadership, or related health discipline is required. Candidates actively pursuing a Master’s degree may be considered. Eligibility for registration with an Alberta College or professional association is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Designated Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) certification is considered an asset. Background in Surgery, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a management or leadership role.
