We will provide all necessary training to safely clean and disinfect in our hospitals and healthcare facilities. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, efficient individual for the position of Environmental Services I (cleaner/housekeeper) who has a strong work ethic and a high respect for safety. Hospitals and healthcare facilities that are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and maintained are vital for our patients’ healing. Because of Environmental Services, staff, patients, family members, volunteers, and visitors feel confident that they are in a safe, healthy, clean environment. Environmental services work is done in areas where patients, staff and visitors are present and involves frequent interactions with patients, clients and staff. Environmental I position is responsible for routine and isolation cleaning protocols, disinfecting of patient rooms, clinical spaces, common areas and assigned medical equipment, washes walls, changing privacy cubicle curtains utilizing a ladder/step stool, floor care (operate scrubbers, buffers/burnishers), and removing waste (e.g. garbage, shredding, biomedical) to designated holding areas. These tasks are to be completed with minimal supervision, in a busy and fast-paced environment. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Nestled amid rocky peaks, the mountain town of Canmore (population approx. 14,000,) draws outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. A combination of the terrain and numerous wildlife corridors has led to a somewhat sprawling community, located about 80 kilometres west of Calgary and about 25 kilometres from Banff.
Description:
As an Environmental II, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with intensive or specialized cleaning within a hospital or facility associated with industrial cleaning supplies and by using powered industrial equipment. Your typical duties may include operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance, thorough washing of ceilings and windows and emptying hazardous waste. You may also provide training/orientation to Environmental staff.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs of force.
Additional Required Qualifications:To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. Ability to walk, climb ladder/step stool, squat, bend, reach in all directions (overhead work required), push/pull. Basic knowledge and operation of a computer and a smartphone. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time (e.g. Surgical and N95 Respiratory Masks, Eye Protection, Gloves, Gowns, etc.). Must be dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Work-related experience, cleaning, knowledge of hospital cleaning procedures and equipment preferred. Customer service is preferred. Environmental Services leadership experience such as working leader, shift lead, training or equivalent preferred.
