Your Opportunity:

This Casual Electronic Technologist II position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, FME at the UAH. The role supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical systems within a large, complex acute-care healthcare environment encompassing approximately 650,000 m². The incumbent performs required duties such as installation, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of systems in accordance with NBC, NFPA, IPC, manufacturer specifications, and HSS/AHS standards and practices. Responsibilities supporting essential and non-essential electronic infrastructure such as BMS, nurse call systems, fire alarm systems, Lenel security, VFD, panic alarms, gas detection, medical processing and sterilization equipment, and computer servers, software and hardware infrastructure. This includes supporting system reliability and coordination of work impacting life-safety and essential power systems. Understanding of the interconnection of all systems, HVAC/Electrical/Mechanical. Upholds’ safety work practices and completes all training as required. Working collaboratively with other trades, contractors, engineers, and clinical stakeholders, the incumbent performs assigned electronic work to support continuous facility operations. Responsibilities include monitoring the performance of assigned systems, completing preventive and corrective maintenance, preparing technical documentation, accurately recording work activities in the maintenance management system (eFacilities), and providing technical support during renovation, inspection, and capital project activities. The incumbent works independently with minimal supervision and applies sound judgment in a safety-critical environment. Participation in after-hours and emergency situations if required. This position is available to Edmonton Zone as needed.

As an Electronics Technologist II, you will perform maintenance and repair duties on a variety of complex non-clinical electronic systems in accordance with manuals, specifications and AHS standards and practices. You will be responsible for complex non-clinical electronic systems and will exercise independence when completing daily responsibilities of the position.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in one of the following trades: Electrician, Electronics Technician or Instrument Technician from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training; or completion of a two-year diploma of related technology (Electronic Technologist).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A valid Electronics Tech., Instrument Tech., Electronic Technologist, Electronics Engineering Tech, diploma or a related technical field from a Canadian accredited institution is required. International credentials must be IQAS approved. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the designation indicated above. Demonstrated working knowledge of building maintenance experience and a demonstrated understanding of a complex healthcare environment, is required. Demonstrated experience with advanced troubleshooting is required. Proven ability to implement preventive maintenance programs, prepare technical documentation, feasibility input, cost estimates, and reports, and coordinate ordering of materials and supplies is required. Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel is required. The incumbent must be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, respond promptly to service requests, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy while functioning effectively in an interdisciplinary healthcare environment. The role requires the ability to lift or move heavy materials or equipment; work in awkward positions; work on ladders for extended periods; work in hot, dirty, or confined environments; and perform tasks involving sitting, bending, kneeling, and crouching without limitation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to meet all organizational policy requirements for employment are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an acute care hospital maintenance environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under emergency conditions and in challenging situations is considered an asset. Knowledge of fire alarm and life-safety system standards, Lenel security, building management or system integration platforms is an asset. Availability to work a variety of shift schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, is considered an asset.
