Reporting to the Executive Director, Alberta Health Services Communications, the Director, Media Relations & Medical Affairs, is an important part of the AHS Communications leadership team. The director proactively identifies and manages issues and provides timely and effective responses to media requests. In addition, this position provides communications oversight for Medical Affairs, the portfolio that manages the professional relationship between AHS and its medical staff.
Description:
The Director provides leadership, direction and support to the Media Relations and Medical Affairs Teams. The position is responsible for: building and supporting a high-performance team to deliver quality work that reflects the vision, mission and business plan of AHS, fostering and promoting a positive, creative, responsive culture to ensure best practice and performance as well as leading proactive storytelling tied to the AHS brand and various campaigns. Additionally, the Director will establish positive and effective relationships and collaboration with leaders from government and other Provincial Health Agencies/Corporations to ensure the successful integration of health services. With respect to media relations, the Director advises senior leaders, members of the Executive Team and other AHS leaders as needed.

Ten years of senior communications experience, at least five of them at a leadership level in a complex, geographically diverse organization (public or private sector). A bachelor’s degree in public relations/communications or journalism or related field. A communications generalist with strengths in media relations, as well as demonstrated abilities in leadership and crisis communications. Ability to produce a variety of communications plans and materials that support initiatives within Medical Affairs. Proactively identify issues and provide direction on how to effectively manage issues, with the goal of protecting and enhancing public trust in the organization.
Additional Required Qualifications:
This position requires being part of an on-call rotation to support after hours communications. The position can be located anywhere in Alberta.
